Mr. Grinder's Guide To A Successful Year

Motto: "Listen, Read, Think, and Act to Succeed!"

Class Rules

The rules for Mr. Grinder's classes are few, but you must abide by them.

1. Abide by the school rules at all times.

2. Keep your hands, feet, and derogatory comments to yourself.

3. Treat school property with respect.

4. Follow directions the first time they are given. (If you have questions or do not understand the directions, ask Mr. Grinder.)

5. When the teacher is speaking, you are not!

CONSEQUENCES

If you violate a rule or disrupt the educational environment for others, there will be consequences. The progression through the consequences will normally go like this:

First Infraction - warning and possible detention.

Second Infraction - detention and parents or guardian are contacted.

Third Infraction - referral to office and parent or guardian will be contacted.

Disciplinary action may not follow this exact sequence.

Disciplinary action depends on the seriousness of the inappropriate behavior. For example, violent behavior will result in immediate removal from the classroom.

CITIZENSHIP POINTS CAN HURT OR HELP A GRADE

Citizenship points are points that can be added or subtracted from a student's grade at the end of the semester.

Students may lose points for behaving poorly in the classroom and not following the Class Rules.

These points, however, may be used to bolster a student's grade. When the semester grades are compiled and a student has not earned any negative points, points will be added to the students grade, which may mean the difference between an A or a B - etc.

GRADING SCALE

  • 90 - 100 = A
  • 80 - 89.9 = B
  • 70 - 79.9 = C
  • 60 - 69.9 = D
  • 60 -below = F

LATE WORK POLICY

Students are often absent from the classroom for a variety of reasons. Those students must make up the assignments missed in a timely manner. Cut Bank High School Policy states that students get two days for every day missed for illness or other unforseen circumstances to make up assignments.

Students in school related activites, however, must make arrangements with Mr. Grinder. Some assignments may need to be completed before the student leaves, and other assignments may be turned in at a later date. The students are expected to follow school policy and get pink slips filled out and signed by each teacher before leaving for the activity. Once the pink slip is filled out and signed by the teacher, completing and turning in the assignments on time becomes the student's responsibility.

Mr. Grinder will not accept assignments that are three, four, or five weeks overdue, and he will not allow an assignment make up marathon the day before the end of the grading period.

Students are responsible to get the assignments from Mr. Grinder, complete them, and hand them in to the appropriate box to be corrected and recorded in the grade book.

POWERSCHOOL KEEPS STUDENTS AND PARENTS INFORMED

Now that Cut Bank High School uses PowerSchool, students and parents/guardians have virtual access to grades twenty-four hours a day.

To check grades from school, go to cutbankschools.net, click on the high school page, click ont the PowerSchool icon, and type in your password.

To check grades from home, go to cutbankschools.net, click on the PowerSchool icon and type in your password.

Passwords are issued by the staff in the Counseling Office. Please see these people if you need help accessing your grade account.

Grades will be sent home every four or five weeks as required by district policy. Students should keep each grade report and compare the grades on the report with the grades on PowerSchool to make sure that the grades were recorded correctly.

If a grade is not recorded correctly, bring the assignment in question and the grade report to Mr. Grinder and politely ask him to check your grade. If the grade in question needs corrected, Mr. Grinder will correct the problem. At times, Mr. Grinder may not be able to check your grade immediately. In this event, Mr. Grinder will have you circle the grade in question on the grade report, staple the grade report and the assignment together, and put them in the box for your class assignments. Mr. Grinder will check the grade in question at a later time, make any corrections, print off a corrected copy of the grades, staple it to the grade sheet and the assignment, and return it to you.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHER RULES

Every once in a while, Mr. Grinder must be absent from the classroom, and a substitute teacher will monitor his classes. All of the rules that apply to the regular classroom still apply, but there are a few extra rule students need to know. The substitute teacher is a member of the community who deserves to be respected as much if not more than Mr. Grinder.

Substitute Rules

1. The substitute will keep a list of students who have not behaved appropriately or who are not working on the assigned work. Students on the list loose citizenship points immediately. The amount will be determined by Mr. Grinder when he returns to the classroom.

2. Any student who continues to misbehave will be immediately sent to the office. A trip to the office results in detention and point loss. Any assignment missed while sitting at the office will be recorded as failing.

3. Students whose names do not appear on the list of misbehaving students earn points to be added to their semester grade total.

Help you or hurt you, the choice is yours!

BOOK CHECKOUT

Word Processing Classes

Textbooks for the Word Processing classes are not checked out to individual students.

There are twenty-four computer stations in the lab and twenty-four text books.

These books do not leave the lab!

There are five sections of Word Processing and all of the stations are used.

Accounting Classes

Text books are checked out to individual accounting students and a book of working papers is also checked out to each student. The working papers are required to complete the class, so students should not lose them.

These books will be inspected for damage when they are checked back in at the end of the school year.
